Have about 5 pounds of macadamia nuts in the shell. How do i roast them?
been de husked just have the nuts in the brown hard shell. Also how do u
open them? there hard as rocks.
Macadamia nuts are not actually roasted, and to shell them you
need a strong opener, no regular nut cracker will do, almost a vice is
nessessary, if you have a bench vice or your husband does they are not
easy to do, I spend 1/2 hour with a hammer cracking and chasing them
acrossed my cement basement floor one time and all I had was a dozen.
In Australia and Hawaii were there most cultivated, they have industrail machines with a 2-3 ton pressure device just to crack them.
I've never roasted macadamia nuts, but I have roasted almonds,
pecans & sunflower seeds. All of those I just put in the oven on 250 in a
baking pan. I usually drizzle a little olive oil over them, but I probably
wouldn't do that with the macadamia nuts. Just watch them so they don't
burn.
i presume roasting is the same as any other hard nut.
getting them out of the shell, in any form other than macadamia paste is
another matter altogether.

alternatively, i think if you got some oak or maple, just slightly less
thick than the diameter of the nut, & drilled a hole that would accommodate a nut, you might get away with putting the thing on something like steel plate, or sidewalk, & hitting it so that the board stopped the hammer from creating weird peanut butter. i don't know, but this seems like it might work. write & let me know. OR, if you had a good vise, you could take that same board, put the nut in it, & squeeze. you probably really do need to board, no matter what you use to put pressure on.
u could try putting them on a baking tray in thge oven maybe
start around 150 degrees see were that gets u i have no idea :)
